corner view bergen, norway: the beach

i didn't expect to get to a beach at all in time for this week's theme, but we suddenly had summer coming our way. saturday, we grabbed our bikes, and spent the whole day cruisin' around in the sun. we stopped at a, hm, well - beach, i guess (we don't really have beaches in my parts, you'd have to go south or far north for that). a gatherer by nature, my daughter had her eyes fixed to the ground during the whole stay. 'mum, i found a shell! here's another one! mum, here's a really big one, and look at that one, it shines!' i grabbed her chin, raised her head and said, 'look, honey - the whole place is covered with shells'. 'woooooooow...'
even though we ate all our food and drank all our water, you could safely say that our backpacks were just a teeny bit heavier as we left.

  5. oh, that poor house! If it had shells, then it was a real beach!

  6. I love water that is surrounded by so much green. I grew up around a lake, so I am more of a lake person than a beach person. Lovely photos.

  9. Ian; it's a small boat house that collapse by old age/lack of maintenance. There were two more of those, in different phases of collapsing. It wasn't by the beach, but by a small lake we passed by on our way back.

  10. Isn't that the truth? Our kids find all sorts of treasures from our outings - rocks, leaves, and most definitely, shells!

Beautiful pictures - I lived in Norway when I was a child - I'd love to go back to visit one day.

  12. my favorite photo here is the little shed collapsing into the water - it makes me wonder how long it was there, who built it, why it was abandoned. great photos!

  14. We had summer weather here in Scotland this summer too - I just hope that it wasn't summer!

I love the photos. I love a beach backed by the forest which is why one of my favourite beaches in Scotland is Tentsmuir, the sea on one side and sand dunes and the forest on the other!

I have just joined the corner view group this week and am so happy this week's theme because I love the beach!

  17. After this post, we should all come up with creative things to do with the piles of shells we've collected.

  26. thanks all for your nice comments!
amanda: norway is truly beautiful, green and lush. it is also a very looong and narrow country, so there's lots of diversity in the landscape. it's easy to overlook the beauty in what we are used to seeing, but taking pictures of the 'ordinary' details helps reminding me of that beauty. as far as the landscape goes, is also helps alot to read all you guys' comments :)
    crescent moon: great idea!
kristina: the water was VERY cold....
