i just discovered a norwegian singer, ane brun. i've heard of her, but not listened to her music. she has an amazing voice! it always takes me some time to get into a musicians 'thing', so right now i'm listening to her own compositions, sorting impressions. covers are easily reckognised, though, and she does some amazing ones. like 'big in japan' - remember alphaville? well, if you know the original song, be prepared for something entirely different (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIiRXQTsWTo). she makes it sound like a leonard cohen tune. and cyndi lauper's 'true colors' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYdZKEGP7bo) - amazing! when i spotted this pj harvey cover, i was sceptical. harvey is a favourite of mine, and favourites are selfdom done justice to by covers. but this one is truly beautyful. takes my mind off the big celebration tomorrow (norwegian constitution day, meaning i have to fix national costumes either too big or too small, sort through the whole house hunting for dresses, shoes, and other representative clothing. i do hate representative clothing).
Wow! Just amazing. Thank you so much for the link. I think we have similar taste in music - Nick, PJ, etc. :-) Very fun.
ReplyDeletei like her too - very much! have her 'true colors' cover on one of my blogs... and you know what, i think i saw her on the subway train in berlin ten days ago with some friends. it was the day after her berlin concert (which i missed, silly me), so i'm pretty sure it was her. didn't have the courage to say that i like her music so much - it felt kind of a naff thing to do. now i think maybe i should have... oh well.
ReplyDeleteyeah you are right. she is really good. am going to look her up.
ReplyDeletewow--thanks for the link. Her voice is amazing -- i just love this blogging thing -- I would never have heard this song otherwise...
